The Grasslands of the Thompson-Nicola Region
The grasslands of the Thompson-Nicola region are unique because our grassland areas are very close to deserts, forests, deep river gorges (such as the world renowned Fraser Canyon and Coquihalla Valley), snow-capped mountains and rugged hillsides.
The dry climate of the Thompson-Nicola region's grasslands areas creates shallow snow fall.
The grasslands of the Thompson-Nicola region are mainly situated around and between Kamloops and Merritt.
Our vast grasslands stretch over BC's most prolific ranches such as the Douglas Lake Ranch of more than ½ million acres, Frolek Cattle Company ranchlands, the Quilchena ranches, Stump Lake Ranch, Historic Nicola Ranch, the Upper Nicola Band Reserve, as well as many other small ranches and crown land.
A condensed ftp site dedicated to grasslands in the Thompson-Nicola region can be found at http://www.tnrd.bcfilmcommission.com/grasslands1. The BC Film Commission also has an abbreviated version of the Thompson-Nicola locations library for your perusal.
